Meaning

巻き寿司 (まきずし, Makizushi) is Makizushi — a Japanese food (sushi and sashimi).

What is Makizushi?

Makizushi ("rolled sushi"), also called norimaki (海苔巻き) or makimono (巻きもの) is a cylindrical piece, formed with the help of a bamboo mat. It is then usually cut into six or eight pieces, which constitutes a single order. Makizushi is generally wrapped in nori , but is occasionally wrapped in a thin omelette ( tamago makizushi ), soy paper, cucumber, or shiso . Tempura makizushi or agezushi[?] is a fried version of the dish. Note that due to rendaku consonant mutation, sushi is spelled with zu instead of su whenever a prefix is attached, such as in this dish.
