Meaning
蒸し物 (むしもの, Mushi-mono) is Mushi-mono — a Japanese food (ways of food preparation).
What is Mushi-mono?
Mushimono means "steamed dish". Steaming works by boiling water continuously, causing it to vaporize into steam; the steam then carries heat to the nearby food, thus cooking the food. The food is kept separate from the boiling water but has direct contact with the steam, resulting in a moist texture to the food. There are various sweet and savoury steamed foods in Japanese cuisine. For example, glutinous rice is steamed instead of boiled. Other well-know examples include mochi and sweets such as manjū , yōkan , uirō , karukan , or suama .
