Frequently asked questions
How does a study day work?
Always the same shape: study what's new, then practise it as flashcards with the reviews that are due mixed in. Every item carries two buttons, done if you already know it, or remind me in 1, 3, 7, 16 or 35 days.
Due items are cleared one at a time, by grading them or marking them done. Nothing clears a whole list at once.
What happens if I miss a day?
New items wait for you. Days advance when you finish them, not by the calendar, so a week away leaves your schedule exactly where you left it.
Reviews are the exception. They come due on real dates and roll into the next day you show up, stacking up the way an Anki backlog does.
Can I study ahead, or go back?
Both. Finish a day and start the next one immediately, as many as you like in one sitting. The day strip on your Today page also jumps back to re-mark something you studied earlier.
How fast can I finish N5?
Three finish times to pick from. The daily list is worked out from the one you choose, and you can change it whenever you like.

Can I study N5 alongside another level?
One schedule runs at a time. Starting N5 stops whichever level you had running, and everything you marked on that level, every status and review date, is kept. It is all on your progress page, and you can switch back whenever you like.
What is recall mode?
One toggle blurs every reading and meaning in the day's lists so you can self-test. Click a blurred answer to check yourself, click again to hide it. Each field reveals on its own, so checking a reading does not spoil the meaning beside it. It starts on, since the point of the day's list is to test yourself. Switch it off and it stays off.
What does each week of the N5 schedule cover?
At the steady pace of 17 words · 3 kanji · 2 grammar a day, which finishes N5 in 47 days. Items follow the same order as the N5 vocabulary, kanji and grammar lists, so you can browse ahead any time. Words, kanji and grammar all land on the last day together.

Does it work with the flashcard decks?
Yes. With a schedule running, the N5 spaced-repetition decks introduce new cards from the same daily slice, so the two never disagree: N5 vocabulary deck · N5 kanji deck · N5 grammar deck. Both fill in the same effort grid.
Do I need an account?
To run the daily schedule, yes, and it is free. A schedule runs for weeks, so it is kept on your account rather than in one browser, where a cleared cache would end it. Sign in with Google, with Apple, or with an email address and password, and your day carries between your phone and your laptop.
