Meaning

稲荷寿司 (いなりずし, Inarizushi) is Inarizushi — a Japanese food (tofu dishes).

What is Inarizushi?

Inarizushi is a dish consisting of small amounts of seasoned rice wrapped in fried tofu skin ( abura-age ). The rice can contain carrots or beans, but no meat or fish. Regional variations include pouches made of a thin omelette ( fukusa-zushi[?] , chakin-zushi ) instead of tofu. It should not be confused with inari maki , which is a roll filled with flavored fried tofu. Cone sushi is a variant of inarizushi originating in Hawaii that may include green beans, carrots, or gobō , along with rice, wrapped in a triangular abura-age piece. It is often sold in okazu-ya (Japanese delis) and as a component of bento boxes. Note that due to rendaku consonant mutation, sushi often is pronounced " zushi " instead of " sushi " whenever a prefix is attached, such as in this dish.
