What is Mountain yam?
Yamaimo ( Dioscorea japonica ), also called yama-no-imo (山の芋), and Japanese mountain yam, is a type of yam that is native to Japan. It can be eaten raw or boiled for noodles, but also is used as material for confectionaries. Jinenjo (自然薯, "wild yam") is also a form of D. japonica . It is native to fields and mountains in Japan. Grated yamaimo is called "tororo" (薯蕷), and is used in various dishes. The kanji form (薯蕷) seldom is used.
