荒廃 (kouhai)

巻名かんめいは末摘花すえつむはな(源氏物語げんじものがたり)の荒廃こうはいした邸やしきに茂しげるヨモギに因ちなむ。

The title of this chapter is derived from the mugwort that had taken over Suetsumuhana's ruined residence.

このことが借地の上に運営されていることと重なって、結果として大規模伐採～森林の荒廃という悪循環を招くこととなった。

Combined with the fact that it was operated on leased land, this resulted in a vicious cycle of large-scale logging leading to forest devastation.
