この経緯から義教は世に「籤引き将軍」と呼ばれる。

From these processes, Yoshinori was called as so-called "drawn shogun."

二月堂のように千枚通しのようなものに神籤を刺すところもある。

There are also places, such as Nigatsudo (in Todai-ji Temple Nara Prefecture) where the mikuji are spiked onto an awl.

このことから、6代将軍に就任した義教は、籤引き将軍と呼ばれるようになった。

As a result, Yoshinori was selected as the 6th shogun, becoming known as the 'lottery shogun.'

そのため、債権債務関係が1回限りで、配分額の多い富籤という方法が案出された。

Therefore tomikuji which had only one timedebts and credits relationship with a large sum of dividend was developed.

年、4代将軍の征夷大将軍足利義持が没し、籤引きで足利義教が6代将軍に就任した。

After the death of Yoshimochi ASHIKAGA, the 4th seii taishogun (literally, "great general who subdues the barbarians") in 1428, Yoshinori ASHIKAGA became the 6th shogun by drawing lots.1428

籤引きの結果、天台座主の義円が還俗して義宣と称し（後に義教と改名）、6代将軍に就任した。

As the result of drawing lots, Gien, Tendai-zasu (head priest of the Tendai sect), returned to secular life and changed his name to Yoshinobu (changed to Yoshinori later) and assumed the post of the 6th shogun.1428

来会者には身分を問わず公平に籤引きによって各席3－5人ずつ招き入れて名物を用いて茶を供した。

Irrespective of the rank of people attending the event, a lottery method was used to impartially select between 3 to 5 individuals to invite to participate in tea ceremonies where priceless tea ceremony utensils were used.6

代将軍は籤引きで選ばれる事とされ、義満の子で僧門に入っていた義円が還俗して将軍足利義教が将軍となる。

In the end the sixth Shogun was chosen by lots: Gien, who was a child of Yoshimitsu that had joined the priesthood, returned to secular life and became Shogun Yoshinori ASHIKAGA.

宿老による合議の結果、出家していた義持の4人の弟たちの中から「籤引き」で後継者が選ばれることになった。

As the result of conference of syukuro (a chief vassal of a samurai family), his successor was to be choosen by lot among Yoshimochi's four younger brothers who had entered into priesthood.
