命日めいにち (meinichi)

今日きょうは祖母そぼの命日めいにちです

It is my grandmother's memorial day today.

縁日（命日）は毎月１７日。

Its fair (anniversary of the founder's death) is celebrated on the 17th of each month.

私は母の命日なので墓に行く。

It's the anniversary of my mother's death so I'll go to her grave.

その石いしには彼かれの命日めいにちが刻きざまれていた。

また、月ごとの命日を「月命日（つきめいにち）」という。

The same monthly date as the date of death is called Tsuki Meinichi.

初七日は、命日を第1日と数えた第7日、つまり、命日の6日後である。

Shonanoka is actually the sixth day after one's death; it is called the seventh day after one's death because the day a person dies is counted the first day after his or her death.

通常は、一周忌以後の当月の命日である「祥月命日（しょうつきめいにち）」をさすことが多い。

A Meinichi usually describes the exact date and month of a person's death, called Shotsuki Meinichi after the first anniversary.
