もがく (mogaku)

彼かれは痛いたみに苦くるしみもがいている

He struggled with pain and suffering.

君も私も学生だ。

Both you and I are students.

彼らは２人とも学童である。

They are both school children.

彼女はどう見ても学者である。

To all appearances, she is a man of learning.

地下鉄ちかてつから出でるのに私わたしはもがいた。

I struggled to get out of the subway.

彼女かのじょは立たちあがろうと、もがいた。

She struggled to get up.

その動物どうぶつは檻おりから出でようともがいた。

The animal struggled to get out of the cage.

ライオンはオリから出でようともがいた。

The lion struggled to get out of his cage.

少年しょうねんは警察官けいさつかんからのがれようとしてもがいた。

The little boy struggled to free himself from the policeman.

そして今夜こんや、彼女かのじょがアメリカで100年ねんにわたって見みてきた全すべてのものについて考かんがえています。悲嘆ひたんや希望きぼう、もがきや前進ぜんしん、出来できやしないと言いわれた回数かいすう、そしてあのアメリカ的てき信条しんじょうを掲かかげて前進ぜんしんした人々ひとびと、そう我々われわれはできる、という。
