日清戦争の頃、新聞社が当時存命していた幕末の「剣客」たちの座談会を企画した。

Around the time of the Sino-Japanese War, a newspaper publishing company held a forum with 'swordsmen' at the end of Edo period who were alive in those days.

昭和11年（1936年）10月25日、那覇市で「空手大家の座談会」（琉球新報主催）が開かれ、この時、唐手を空手に改めることが決まった。

On October 25, 1936, at the "Meeting of Karate Masters" held in Naha City (sponsored by the Ryukyu Shimpo), it was decided to change "karate" written as Tang hand to "karate" written as empty hand.

戦時下には大東亜戦争（太平洋戦争）を「世界史の哲学」の立場から思想的に位置付けようと試みた「世界史的立場と日本」座談会や「近代の超克」座談会に出席。

During the War, he participated in the symposia entitled 'World-historical position and Japan' and 'Overcoming the Modern' in which they tried to clarify the ideological position of the Greater East Asia War (the War of the Pacific) from the standpoint of 'Philosophy of the world history.'

昭和15年（1940年）12月、東亜書道新聞社が座談会を催し、書家の参集を求めて書道界の大同団結について意見を交換し、昭和16年（1941年）1月、「書壇革新協議会」の結成に至った。

In December of 1940, Toa Shodo Shinbunsha (a news paper company concerned with calligraphy) held a round-table discussion to gather many calligraphers and to exchange opinions about uniting persons in the calligraphic society for a common purpose, consequently leading to the establishment of the "Shodan Kakushin Kyogikai."

当時の文学青年から崇拝され、代表作「小僧の神様」にかけて「比喩としての「神様」「神」一覧」に擬せられていたが、太宰治から長篇小説『津軽』の中で批判を受けて立腹し、座談会の席上で太宰を激しく攻撃した。

He was worshipped by the literary youth of the time and was called a "god of novels" after his representative work, "The Shopboy's God"; however, he was offended by Osamu DAZAI's criticism of him in DAZAI's full-length novel "Tsugaru," and attacked him viciously at a round-table discussion.

この四人は1942年（昭和17年）から翌年にかけて『中央公論』誌上で三回にわたり掲載された「世界史的立場と日本」座談会（「世界史的立場と日本」昭和十七年一月号、「東亜共栄圏の倫理性と歴史性」昭和十七年四月号、「総力戦の哲学」昭和十八年一月号）の出席者である。

These four people were participants in the symposium entitled 'World-historical position and Japan' printed in the three issues of "Chuo Koron" from 1942 to the following year (January 1942 issue 'World-historical position and Japan,' April 1942 issue 'Morality and historical aspect of the East Asia Co-prosperity Sphere' and January 1943 issue 'Philosophy of all-out war').

第二次世界大戦のさなか、1942年から翌年にかけて『中央公論』誌上で、「世界史的立場と日本」座談会（「世界史的立場と日本」昭和17年1月号、「東亜共栄圏の倫理性と歴史性」昭和17年4月号、「総力戦の哲学」昭和18年1月号）を京都大学の同僚、高坂正顕、西谷啓治、鈴木成高と行った。

From 1942 to 1943 during World War II, articles summarizing symposiums that Iwao KOYAMA held with Masaaki KOSAKA, Keiji NISHITANI, and Shigetaka SUZUKI (colleagues of his from Kyoto Imperial University) on topics such as ' The world's historical position and Japan' appeared in the magazine "Chuo Koron" ('The world's historical position and Japan' appeared in the January issue in 1942, 'The morality and history of the Great East Asia Co-prosperity Sphere' appeared in the April issue in 1942, and 'The philosophy of all-out battle' appeared in the January issue in 1943).

戦時下の1942年から翌年にかけて『中央公論』誌上で三回にわたり掲載され、大東亜戦争を「世界史の哲学」の立場から思想的に位置付けようと試みた「世界史的立場と日本」座談会（「世界史的立場と日本」1942年一月号、「東亜共栄圏の倫理性と歴史性」1942年四月号、「総力戦の哲学」1943年一月号）の出席者である。

During the war, they were participants in the symposiums on 'The World Historic Position and Japan' ('The World Historic Position and Japan' in the January 1942 issue, 'The Ethics and Historical Position of the East Asia Co-prosperity Sphere' in the April 1942 issue and 'The Philosophy of Total War' in the January 1943 issue), which appeared three times in "Chuo koron" magazine from 1942 to the following year and in these they had tried to determine what the ideological standing of the Greater East Asia War was from the point of view of the 'philosophy of world history.'
