ぽかんと (pokanto)

彼かれは驚おどろいてぽかんとしている

He was flabbergasted.

その辺にぽかんとして立っているな.

Don't stand around gaping.

その子こは口くちをぽかんと開あけて私わたしを見みつめた。

That child stared at me, his mouth agape.

彼かれはぽかんとした顔かおつきでそこに立っていた。

He was standing there with a vacant look.

彼らは(びっくりして)口をぽかんと開けた.

Their mouths dropped open.

彼はそれを見て[聞いて](驚いて)口をぽかんとあけた.

He dropped his jaw at that.

トムとぼくとはぽかんとしてお互いを見やった。

Tom and I looked at each other blankly.

彼女が来るのを1時間もぽかんと駅で待っていた.

He waited for her at the station for an hour like an idiot.

ぽかんと花はなを眺ながめながら、人間にんげんも、本当ほんとうによいところがある、と思おもった。花はなの美うつくしさを見みつけたのは、人間にんげんだし、花はなを愛あいするのも人間にんげんだもの。

While looking at the flowers I thought suddenly that humans too had a good side. It's humans who discovered the beauty of flowers and it's also humans who can appreciate them.
