臨終りんじゅう (rinjuu)

祖母そぼが 臨終りんじゅうを 迎むかえた

My grandmother breathed her last.

大文第六　別時念仏--臨終の念仏を説く。

The sixth chapter (Betsuji Nenbutsu) is about the Buddhist invocation prayed at person's death.

臨終（りんじゅう）とは、死を迎える直前の時期をいう。

Rinju is the time immediately before one dies.

しかし日蓮は、以下のように述べている（臨終用心抄）。

However, Nichiren states as follows (Rinjuyojinsho).

臨終の時に彼が読んだ経文は、法華経の如来神力品であった。

The sutra he read in dying was Nyoraijinrikihon of Hokke-kyo Sutra.

以来法然臨終までの21年間、その許で修学することとなる。

He studied under Honen for 21 years until the demise of Honen.

臨終のときには、きちんと正座して皆に臨終の挨拶をして、それではと床につき、そのまま帰幽したそうだ。

At her deathbed, she sat up straight, said goodbye to everyone, lay down saying just "then" and died.

華美を好むあまりに身内の眉をひそめさせることもあった妍子だが、亡くなる間際に身を清め、正式な受戒を済ませての潔い臨終であり、道長は末娘嬉子に続く次女の死に「老いた父母を置いてどこへ行かれるのか、私達も供をさせてくれ」と泣いて取り縋ったと伝えられる。

Even though Kenshi was frowned upon by her relatives for her lavishness, she underwent a purification of her body and a formal Buddhist service just before her death as Michinaga clung to her and mourned 'Where are you going, leaving behind old parents? Please let me accompany you" for the death of his second daughter following that of his youngest daughter Kishi.'

彼の臨終が迫りつつあった. He was nearing his end.彼の臨終が迫りつつあった. His hour had come.父の臨終にぜひ間に合いたいものと願った. I ardently wished to be in time for the death of my father.臨終に際し、「死にとうない」と述べたと伝わる。

It is reported that on his deathbed he said, "I don't want to die."
