裁つ[たつ] (tatsu)

ドレス 用ようの 布ぬのを 裁たった

I cut up the dress fabric.

布ぬのを 斜ななめに 裁たちなさい。

Cut the cloth diagonally.

布ぬのに 応おうじて 衣服いふくを 裁たて。

Cut your coat according to your cloth.

竜が裁つに音が似ているため裁縫の神としても信仰される。

She is also worshipped as the god of sewing, since tatsu (

竜) sounds similar to tatsu (裁つ (cut)).その後に数枚から十数枚重ねて裁つように切るところから、こう呼称されるようになった。

These pieces are subsequently stacked in several to a dozen layers to be cut and, hence, became referred to as Tachi (cut) soba.
