ぼくは黄昏どきの静かな戸外に出て東のほう、公園あたりまで散歩したかったのだけど、そうしようとするたびにぼくは声高に戦わされる無茶苦茶な議論に巻きこまれ、ロープで引っ張られるようにして椅子にもどされた。

I wanted to go out into the quiet outdoors at dusk and take a walk east toward the park, but each time I tried to go, I got caught up in some wild, loud argument which pulled me back into my chair as if with ropes.
