How to tell them apart
かのように describes how something appears contrary to reality, often paired with あたかも to stress the illusion. ごとし is a classical simile likening one thing to another based on resemblance, not necessarily contrary to fact. The core contrast is illusion vs comparison: 彼は知っているかのように笑う implies he does not actually know, while 超人のごとし simply compares him to a superman without implying the superman is false. Swapping them loses either the contrary-to-fact nuance or the literary simile feel.
