I’m sorry this announcement might feel sudden, but I’ve decided to end my Onomappu YouTube channel that I’ve been running for 5 years
そしてまた新あたらしく別べつのチャンネルを作つくりたいと思おもいます

I want to start over with a new channel
今回こんかいはなぜそういう決断けつだんをしたのかを皆みなさんに説明せつめいしたいと思おもいます

In this video, I’d like to explain what caused me to make this decision
簡単かんたんに言ゆうと、もうOnomappuの視聴しちょう者しゃの多おおくは日本にほん語ごを勉強べんきょうしていない人ひとが多おおくいて

Put simply, many of the original Onomappu viewers are no longer studying Japanese
その影響えいきょうで新あたらしい日本にほん語ご学習がくしゅう者しゃにYouTubeが動画どうがを届とどけなくなったからです

Because of that, the YouTube algorithm is failing to show my videos to new Japanese language learners
もう少すこし詳くわしく説明せつめいすると僕ぼくの動画どうががアップロードされるとまず最初さいしょに僕ぼくの視聴しちょう者しゃに動画どうがの通知つうちが行いきます

Let me explain in more detail. When a video is uploaded, the first thing YouTube does is show it to my subscribers and frequent viewers
でもそこであまり動画どうがが再生さいせいされないとYouTubeはこの動画どうがはダメなんだなと思おもって

But if the video doesn’t get many views from that initial group of people, YouTube thinks the video is bad and won’t show it to anyone else

It stops recommending the video to anyone
そうなると今こん動画どうがを必要ひつようとしてくれる人ひとたちに動画どうがが届とどかなくなってしまうので

If that happens, my content won’t reach the people who actually need it

少すこし前まえのYouTube Liveでも話はなしたんですけど、今いまのYouTubeのアルゴリズムはすごく難むずかしくて

I mentioned this on YouTube live a few weeks ago, but the YouTube algorithm is extremely complicated
最初さいしょは新あたらしいタイプの動画どうがを投稿とうこうしていたからかなって思おもったんですけど

At first, I thought the reason was because the format of my videos was slightly different than before
色々いろいろデータを見みてみるとそういうわけではなくて、昔むかしのような動画どうがでも再生さいせいされないし

But reviewing the data, that wasn’t the case. Even my traditional style videos aren’t getting views either
むしろサムネイルとかタイトルとか適当てきとうなOnomappu FactoryのPodcastの方ほうがなんか反応はんのうが良よかったりするので

In fact, the Onomappu Factory podcast videos, even though I only create simple, somewhat random thumbnails and titles, are performing better
そこで、Onomappuのチャンネルはもう結構けっこう難むずかしいなという風ふうに思おもいました

So I thought the Onomappu channel might be in a tough spot
もう動画どうががいいとか悪わるいとかそういう話はなしじゃなくて、昔むかしはYouTubeが95%くらいは動画どうがをおすすめしてくれたんですけど

It’s not a matter of whether the video is good or bad anymore, in the past my videos would be recommended about 95% of the time
今いま見みたら大体だいたい 20%もおすすめしてなかったので、やっぱりアルゴリズムには敵かなわないなという風ふうに思おもいました

But looking at it now, they only get recommended less than 20% of the time. So I guess there really is no beating the algorithm

So I think I need to start fresh with a new channel so that it can better reach Japanese language learners

My mind is set, so I’m just talking factually now

But when I discovered the truth, my heart was broken, it felt like I just got heartbroken

My channel that I’ve been having fun creating and engaging with everyone together on,

Ending it felt like I’d be losing my connection with everyone

Whether the new channel will even be popular or not is not guaranteed. So I don’t know if this is the last time people will ever seem me again

But what I can promise is I will continue to post videos on my new channel

And next, I’ll start thinking about how to preview the new channel from breaking like my current channel did

I think it will take me some time to create new videos, edit and start posting them again

I’ve always wanted to help people studying Japanese
日本にほん語ご学校がっこうを作つくったりカードゲームを作つくったり、ま、色々いろいろなことをしましたけど

I created a Japanese language school, a card game, and many other things
ずっと応援おうえんしたいという気持きもちは1回かいも変かわったことがありません。

My desire to continue to support learners has never changed
なので今後こんごも僕ぼくは日本にほん語ご学習がくしゅう者しゃのために何なんかしらずっとやっているんだろうなという感覚かんかくはあります。

So I’m determined to keep doing something to help Japanese learners

But, the things I’ve tried haven’t gone that well

The Japanese language school was popular but had to be closed
いいもので人気にんきがあれば続つづけられるだろうって思おもっていたんですけど、

I thought that if the content was good and popular it could continue
やっぱりそういうわけではなくて、

But in the end that alone wasn’t enough to sustain it

I stopped making videos for a while to maintain the school’s quality
他ほかにもカードゲームも昔むかしの動画どうが見みてもらうと分わかるんですけど

Then I started making a Japanese learning card game which you can see that process by watching my recent videos
まず作つくるだけですごく大変たいへん

First of all, it was extremely difficult to create that game
あとは1つの値段ねだんを安やすくするためにはたくさん作つくらないといけないので、
ato wa 1 tsu no nedan o yasuku suru tame ni wa takusan tsukuranai to ikenai no de,
Not just designing it, but to manufacture them, you really have to produce them in bulk
この前ぜんKickstarterで300%以上いじょう達成たっせいしたんですけど、それでも実じつはお金かねは足たりていなくて
kono zen Kickstarter de 300 % ijou tassei shita n desu kedo, sore de mo jitsu wa okane wa tarite inakute
I ran a KickStarter to help fund the bulk order, but even with over 300% of the goal, it couldn’t completely fund the initial bulk order
自分じぶんの医者いしゃのお金かねからも払はらっています。

So I had to pay for some of the expense using the money I saved from working as a Doctor
でもあのカードゲームは自分じぶんみたいにフリートークが苦手にがてな人ひとが初心しょしん者しゃでも友達ともだちができるように作つくったカードゲームなので

But that card game was made for introverted people like me who aren’t good at talking to strangers, to help them break the ice and make friends, even if they’re only beginners at Japanese

Well, it was because I wanted to make it this way
あとは使つかってくれている人ひとたちが友達ともだちを作つくって人生じんせいを変かえるんだっていうことを想像そうぞうすると

I could imagine people playing the game and making friends, and their lives becoming more positve

Well, I’m so happy I was able to make it, even if it ends up being more like a hobby than a successful business

After all, there are people who really want to be able to speak Japanese, and it would even change their lives

But I think there are some people who are actually worried about whether they will ever be able to actually speak Japanese

I also had those kind of worries before too
小しょう学校がっこう、中ちゅう学校がっこう、高校こうこうで英語えいごをずっと勉強べんきょうしてきて、こんなに時間じかんも使つかって塾じゅくも行いっていたので

I studied English though Elementary, Middle and High school and spent even more money going to private lessons

I can understand why people spend a lot of money on trying to learn a language

But even after all that, I still couldn’t speak English at all

It’s only when I became a University Student, I reached a level that I could speak both Chinese and English

I realized until then I was studying the wrong way the whole time

That has to be why, otherwise all the Japanese people in Japan who study since Elementary school would be able to speak English

I’ve experienced this struggle so I know
