minasan konnichiwa, hi toki desu.
Hello everyone, It’s Hitoki
minasan wa nihonnin no myaku ari sain o shitte imasu ka?
Does everyone know the signs that a Japanese person is interested in you?
myaku ari sain to iu no wa suki na hito ga iru toki ni sono aite mo jibun ni kyoumi ga aru yo to iu toki ni dasu sain no koto desu.
What I mean is, the signs that you can notice from people if someone likes you
When I was in middle school, there was a girl I was interested in and whenever she went to get a drink of water, I would go with her
But I always pretended it was just a coincidence, saying “Oh! Hello again!”
wakaru yo. minna ga iitai kimochi wa wakaru yo.
You get it. You know what I’m trying to say
It’s cringey, but some people are too shy so this is all they can do
kono kimochi warukute minikui koudou ga ningen no shouchou da.
It’s not a great quality for people to act like that though
sono ko kono douga mitenai yo ne.
I don’t think the girl won’t seen this video
moshi mitetara ano toki, guuzen o yotte gomen ne.
But if she does, I’m sorry for making fake coincidences back then
ato kimi to onaji kurasu no tomodachi ni ai ni iku furi o shite, tamani mi ni itteta no. gomen na.
Also, I would sometimes I would pretend to come to your class to talk to one of my friends, but I was actually coming to see you
konna ni boku no koto o hanashiteru no wa minasan no benkyou no tame desu.
The reason I’m talking about this is for everyone’s education
kou iu fuu ni minasan no naka ni mo are ano hito yoku miru na tte iu hito ga itara, moshi ka suru to sore wa sono hito no myaku wari sain ka mo shiremasen.
If you ever notice someone acting like that, they might be interested in you
sukunaku tomo myaku nashi dattara futsuu wa sakeraremasu kara ne.
At least, if the person doesn’t give off any signs back, you can avoid awkwardness
By the way, I didn’t get any signs that the girl was interested in me back then either
But in high school, I got signs from a lot of people they were interested in me
danshi koukou datta kedo
…It was an all boys high school
These signs are very important
It’s often said that Japanese people don’t express their feelings very well
So today I’m going to teach you some common signs that Japanese people use to show they’re interested
minasan ga kyoumi no aru nihonnin no kimochi o kossori to shiru houhou o oshietai to omoimasu.
I want to teach you a way to secretly know what Japanese people are thinking
So first I did some research from websites and picked the points I’ve seen in real life
saisho wa karui mono kara shoukai shite ikitai to omoimasu.
First, I’d like to introduce some lighter points
myaku ari sain 1 tsume, henshin ga hayakute hinpan ni aru.
The first is if the person messages you frequently and replies quickly to your messages
kore wa nihonnin ja nakute mo yappa suki dattara minna sou natchaimasu yo ne.
This isn’t specific to Japanese people, anyone who likes someone would do that
e, de mo boku dake ja nai to omou n desu kedo, jissai ni kyoumi no aru hito kara messeeji ga kitara chotto matte henshin shimasen ka?
Am I the only one? When you get a message from someone you like, don’t you intentionally wait a bit before replying?
kite sugu ni henshin suru to kimochi ga jibun no hou ga takaku natchau shi,
If I reply immediately, I think it makes me look too excited
sore ga bareru to sugoku netchuu shite iru tte iu fuu ni omowarechau kara, daitai 3 jikan kara hannichi kurai akete messeeji o boku wa kaeshi tari shimasu ne.
If they notice, they might think too interested, so I usually wait a few hours or even half a day before responding
Well, what do you think? Do people play these kind of timing games everywhere?
otona na shikute kekkou ki ni shichau nihonnin no hito wa, 2 ka to ka kaette konai koto mo aru to omou n desu kedo,
I think Japanese people are quite sensitive and might not even reply for a few days
kojinteki ni 2 ka made dattara mada myaku ari ja nai ka na to iu fuu ni omoimasu.
Personally, I think if they reply within 2 days, there’s still a chance
desu no de messeeji ga hayaku konakatta to shite mo nihonnin no baai wa mada myaku ari no kanousei ga zenzen aru no de shinpai shinaide kudasai.
So even if you don’t receive a message immediately, if the person is Japanese, there could still be a chance they’re interested in you, so don’t worry
However, there is something people do that can kill the mood
sore wa aite no henshin ga mada kitenai no ni ikiteru tte iu fuu ni messeeji o okuru koto desu.
It’s if you say something like “I’m still here” while you’re waiting for them to respond
nan ka chotto jooku mitai ni itteru kedo, de mo hontou wa aite no henshin ga hayaku hoshikute hoshikute tamaranai n deshou.
People say they’re joking when they say that, but it comes off as desperate
tashika ni shinpai shiteru kimochi mo aru to omou yo.
I think that’s definitely something to be cautious of
de mo hontou no hontou wa hayaku henshin ga hoshii n deshou.
But personally I really like quick responses
But some people who receive messages like those can lose interest
Therefore, you need relax and not have an expectation of an immediate reply
kimochi wa wakaru kedo jitto machimashou.
I understand how some people feel, but please wait for a response patiently
myaku ari sain 2 tsume, jibun ga paatonaa ga inai koto o apiiru shite kuru.
The second sign that someone could be interested is when they make it clear that they don’t have a partner
kore wa dou kangae tatte myaku ari deshou.
No matter how you look at it, that means they’re interested in you, right?
mou, mou myaku ari tte iu ka aite mo jibun no koto suki jan.
There’s definitely a chance if they talk like that
Uhh, but what kind of situation is it normal to say that? It would be weird to say that suddenly, wouldn’t it?
hajimemashite. watashi no namae wa hi toki desu. nihonnin desu.
Hello. My name is Hitoki. I’m Japanese
kanojo wa imasen. yoroshiku onegai shimasu.
I don’t have a girlfriend. Nice to meet you.
dou iu jiko shoukai? dou shita? sonna hito iru?
What kind of self-introduction is that?? Does anyone talk like that?
ma, minasan mo itsu ka nihon go de jiko shoukai suru toki, sono naka ni suki na hito ga itara sono hito no koto o mite sakki no fureezu o itte mimashou.
Well, someday when you introduce yourself in Japanese if you’re introducing yourself to someone you like, just look at them and try saying that
tabun hanashi no naka ni sarigenaku ireru no ka na.
Maybe slip it into conversations casually
For example, if someone asks what you did during vacation, and you say you went to Disneyland alone
a, paatonaa inai n da na tte iu fuu ni omou no ka na.
You can guess, ahh they probably don’t have a partner
But are there people like that? Unless you’re a Disney super-fan, you wouldn’t go to Disneyland alone would you?
yoku baggu ni takusan dizunii kyarakutaa no bajji to ka, kii horudaa to ka tsuketeru hito iru kedo
I often see people with a lot of Disney pins and keychains on their bags
sou iu hito ja nai to 1 nin de dizunii wa ikanai yo ne.
Unless you’re that kind of person, you probably wouldn’t go to Disney alone
da kara sou iu fuu ni nan ka kono hito paatonaa inai tte koto o isshou kenmei iou to shitenai? tte iu hito ga itara sono hito wa anata ni ki ga aru ka mo shiremasen.
So if you find someone trying really hard to slip in a way to say they don’t have a partner, they might be interested in you
kore wa myaku arisai nna kanousei wa takai desu ne.
It’s most likely a good sign
zettai minna no naka ni, kono apiiru no houhou tokui na hito iru yo ne.
I’m sure there’s someone among you who’s good at this way of talking
boku mo kaiwa o jouzu ni suru houhou o shiritai.
I also want to know how to improve my communication skills
kinou wa boku 1 nin de kafe itte, 1 nin de ie de geemu shite, 1 nin de yoru wa eiga o mita n da yo ne.
Yesterday I went to a café by myself, went home and played games alone, and watched a movie by myself at night
dame da. hetakuso sugiru.
No good. That’s too blunt
myaku ari sain 3 tsume, henshin ni sekkyokusei ga mirareru.
The third sign that someone could be interested is if they respond thoroughly
ma, messeeji o yaritori shite iru to, tatoeba messeeji o okutta no ni
Well, when you exchange messages for example
If all he says is “yes” or “I see” then there’s no chance. They’re not interested.
are, chuugaku no koro o omoidashitara namida ga dete kita. natsukashii na.
Oh, when I think about my middle school days, nostalgic tears come to my eyes
ano koro wa yoku shikushiku naite imashita.
I used to cry a lot back then
Shiku Shiku is an onomatopoeia that represents crying quietly trying to hold back the tears
Hey, hey, what’s wrong with Hitoki? I just saw you sobbing like shiku shiku in the bathroom a minute ago
ma, kono you ni tsukaimasu.
Well, you would use it like that
shikushiku wa ookina koe de naku n ja naku
Shiku Shiku is not a loud cry
It describes the sound of someone crying secretly with muffled sob sounds
" shiku shiku " tte oto ga chotto shikushiku tte iu fuu ni kikoenai desu ka? kikoemasu yo ne.
Doesn’t that sound a little bit like “Shiku Shiku”?
sou, sore ga onomatope desu.
That’s why it’s an onomatopoeia
On the other hand, crying loudly is Gyaa Gyaa
Gyaa Gyaa is a like bawling loudly, while quiet sobbing is like Shiku Shiku
chinami ni boku ga tsukutta onomatope no kaado geemu no naka ni mo shikushiku wa arimasu.
By the way, the Onomatopoeia card game I made includes Shiku Shiku
messeeji ga yomareta koto o kiyomi to ii, da kedo henshin ga nai koto o kiyomi mushi to iu fuu ni iimasu.
Anyway, when someone sees your message it shows as “read” but if there isn’t a reply, you can say it was ignored
When someone you like reads your message but ignores it, it makes you want to cry
ato wa henshin ga kita to shite mo " un " to ka " sou na n da ne " to iu baai ni wa chotto myaku ari to wa ienai n ja nai deshou ka.
Also even if you get a reply but it’s just like “yes” or “I see”, it’s probably a sign they’re not interested
Yeah, well, I was able to make this video thanks to you all
ima nannin ka no myaku nashi sain ni kizuku koto ga dekimashita.
I’ve now also noticed some signs that there’s no hope
yoshi, tsugi da.
Ok, next
myaku ari sain 4 tsume, deeto ni sasotte kotowarareru toki, betsu no hi o teian shite kuru.
The fourth sign that someone could be interested is if they ask you out on a date and you turn them down, and then they suggest a different day instead
This one is incredibly realistic. Even if the person you like asks you out on a date, there are times you aren’t free, right?
sono toki ni tada kotowaru dake ja nakute, yappari kyoumi ga aru hito no baai
If you are interested in someone it’s not that you’re turning them down
You might say “That day is difficult, but how about next week?”
na no de kyoumi no aru aite kara betsu no hi o teian saretara, sore wa omedetou gozaimasu. mou seikou desu.
So if the person you’re interested in suggests a different day, congratulations! You’ve already made it
It’s a good sign that the other person is interested because they really want to make a plan with you
So on the other hand, if someone you like invites you out, try not to turn them down
It might make the other person think that you’re not interested
Japanese people tend to think about the other person’s feelings so if you just decline
moshi ka suru to kore tte jibun ni myaku nashi sain okutteru no ka na to iu fuu ni kangaete mou sasotte kurenaku natchau ka mo shirenai no de
Maybe they’ll think it’s a sign you’re not interested and they’ll stop asking you
zehi kotowaru toki wa betsu no hi o teian suru.
If you’re interested but have to decline, please suggest another day
moshikuha mada hi ni ga wakaranai baai wa chotto kou iu riyuu de muri na n desu kedo mata sasotte kudasai to iu fuu ni itte mite kudasai.
Or if you don’t know a date yet, try saying something like “I can’t make it for this reason, but please invite me again”
so shitara, jibun mo aite ni myaku wari sain o okuru koto ga dekimasu.
That can help send the other person a sign that you’re interested
On the other hand, if you really don’t like them, it’s ok to just turn them down
amari shitsurei naku aite ni tsutaeru koto ga dekimasu.
You can try to tell the other person without being too rude
myaku ari sain 5 tsume, shizen ni sukinshippu o totte kuru.
The fifth sign that someone could be interested in you is if they naturally make physical contact
Japanese people don’t usually hug eachother, or even touch eachother casually
tatoeba, boku ga ikinari shokuba de bai bai tte ii nagara josei ni hagu o shitara boku wa mou kubi desu.
For example, if I suddenly hugged a woman at work when I say bye, I’d be fired
boku no jinsei ga bai bai ni narimasu.
My life would be over
mou saikin da to " nee nee " to iu fuu ni kata o sawaru dake de mo, mou sekuhara ni natte shimaimasu.
These days even just touching someone’s shoulder and saying “hey hey” can be considered sexual harassment
In particular, physical contact between opposite sexes is quite risky and not recommended
desu ga, boku no shirabe ni yoru to, soshite boku ga mawari o mite iru to josei wa myaku ari sain to shite kono sukinshippu o sukoshi tsukau toki ga arimasu.
But according to my research, and from what I’ve seen around me, women sometimes use this slight physical contact as a sign they’re interested
tatoeba pen o watasu toki ni, aete te o sawatte pen o watashite kuru to ka
For example, when handing over a pen, they’ll deliberately touch your hand
otsukare tte kata o tataite kuru to ka
They’ll tap you on the shoulder and say “you look tired”
moshi ka suru to sore wa myaku ari sain ka mo shiremasen. de mo kore ni kagitte wa dansei o matsu dake no hou ga ii to omoimasu.
It may be a sign that they’re interested in you, but this isn’t a technique men can use
tada yuiitsu sukinshippu o totte mo yurusareru koto ga ooi dansei ga imasu.
However, there is one type of man who is often allowed to make physical contact
sore wa ikemen desu.
That’s a super handsome man
ima boku o fukumeta ooku no dansei ni ookina dameeji ga ataeraremashita.
They cause a lot of emotional damage to many men, including myself
shitteru n desu. josei wa sukinshippu o sareru to iya da to itteru ga
I know, women say they don’t like to be touched by men they aren’t dating
But what they mean to say is “I don’t like to be touched by men who aren’t good looking”
sukinshippu o totta toki ni kyaa to iu koe ga kikoeta toki
When they are touched, they scream
But if the guy is good looking, it’s a joy. If he’s ugly, it’s harassment.
de mo shou ga nai n desu. anata ga kabedon o sareru tokoro o souzou shite mite kudasai.
But there’s nothing we can do about that. It’s like if someone pushes you up against a wall
After being pushed against a wall, you look up and see an ugly man with big nostrils staring at you
saa, anata wa ima donna kimochi desu ka?
So, how would that make you feel?
shikushiku naite imasu yo ne.
You’re Shiku Shiku (sobbing)
sono kimochi warui hito wa naite iru anata o mite, konna ni ureshigatteru n da tte iu fuu ni omotte imasu.
When that creepy person sees you crying, he thinks “wow I must have made them really happy”
kore ga hontou no jigoku desu.
This is true hell
saa, kyou wa nihonnin ga yoku tsukau myaku ari sain o benkyou shimashita.
