Meaning & usage
の can replace a noun that is clear from context, with a meaning like one or thing. It is used when pointing to a particular item out of a group, as in choosing the white one or asking for the small one. It follows the plain form of verbs like 作ったの, i-adjectives like 白いの, na-adjectives with な, and nouns with の like 父の. Be careful not to add an extra の after possessive forms like あなたの, since the の there already does the replacing work.
