Meaning & usage
の turns a verb or adjective phrase into a noun phrase meaning doing something, to do something, or that something happens, so it can act as subject or object. It attaches to the plain form, as in 書くの, 書かないの, 難しいの, and 静かなの, and the resulting phrase takes particles like は, が, or を. Use the plain form before の even in polite sentences, so avoid forms like 書きますの.
