Meaning & usage
嫌いだ expresses dislike for a thing or person. It is a na-adjective, so the disliked item is marked with が or は, as in 水が嫌いだ or スポーツは嫌いだ, and before a noun it becomes 嫌いな, as in 嫌いな食べ物. In polite speech it becomes 嫌いです, and past forms are 嫌いだった and 嫌いではなかった. It describes a personal feeling of dislike, so avoid using it too directly about people in polite conversation.
