来る・くる (ru kuru)

Meaning & usage

来る means to come or pay a visit toward where the speaker is. It is used when movement ends at the speaker's location, with the destination marked by に or へ and the starting point by から. 来る is an irregular verb with forms like 来ます, 来て, 来た, and 来ない, so its conjugation needs memorizing. In polite speech, use 来ます, while plain 来る is common in casual conversation.
