行く・いく (ku iku)

Meaning & usage

行く (often written いく) means to go somewhere, and when attached to the verb stem or used as ていく after a te-form it shows an action or change continuing into the future, as in 変わっていく. It also appears in plain sentences simply meaning to go to a place.

1. 下着したぎを買かいに行いくんだよ。お前おまえ、まだノーパンだろうが。

   We're going to buy underwear. You're still not wearing underpants, are you?

2. 私たちがそこへ行くかどうかを決めるのは君の責任だ。

   It is up to you to decide whether we will go there or not.

3. 年月を経て物事がどう変わっていくか見るのは面白そうだ。

   It would be fun to see how things change over the years.

4. 明日は早起きしなければならない。ピクニックにいくのだから。

   We've got to get up early tomorrow. We're going on a picnic.

5. この天気とは気長に付き合っていくしかない。

   You have to learn to put up with this weather.

   You see I've resolved to follow you wherever you go.

7. 列車で行くのか飛行機で行くのか決めなさい。

   You must decide whether you will go by train or by plane.

8. 「今日お父さんに会いに行く。進路相談だ」「いいですよ、そんなの」

   "I'm going to see your father today, about career counselling." "You don't need to bother with that."
