Meaning & usage
ばかり follows a plain-form verb or である after a noun to mean that something is the case to an exclusive or excessive degree, as in 留守ばかり. In the patterns ばかりでなく and ばかりか it follows である and means 'not only... but also', adding a further point beyond what was stated.
