Meaning & usage
になると means when a particular season, time, age, or situation arrives, a certain state or event regularly follows. It attaches to a noun with に, as in 冬になると or 十八歳になると, where なる shows a change into that noun state and と marks the condition. Because と describes natural, habitual, or inevitable outcomes, it cannot be used for a one-time past action done by someone's will, so avoid using it to say someone did something intentionally on one occasion.
