Meaning & usage
ともなると expresses that once a person reaches a certain age, status, season or stage, a new situation follows. It is used for predictable changes like colder mornings in December or heavier responsibility as 社会人. It attaches directly to a noun as N + ともなると, with ともなれば as the conditional counterpart. It describes a general tendency after that point is reached, not a single completed event in the past.
