加えて (ete)

Meaning & usage

加えて adds extra information with the meaning moreover or on top of that. It is used when a second fact, ability, or situation strengthens or supplements what was already stated. It appears alone at the start of a sentence as 加えて, or follows a noun phrase as Nに加えて, where に marks what is added to. The form comes from the te-form of the verb 加える, to add, and sounds formal and written.

   I want to study German in addition to English.

2. 私たちには材料に加えて見本も必要だ。

   We need a sample in addition to materials.
