との (tono)

Meaning & usage

との reports quoted content before nouns meaning a message, news, or announcement. It follows a complete plain form clause, as in 休みだとの連絡 or 遅れるとの放送, and also follows set greetings like よろしくとのことです to relay regards. The との phrase must modify a noun such as 伝言, 話, or 知らせ, and it sounds formal and common in written notices and reported speech.
