ねばならない (nebanaranai)

Meaning & usage

ねばならない expresses obligation, meaning must or have to, and sounds formal or written. It attaches to the negative stem of a verb, that is the verb's nai form with ない dropped, as in 書き留めておかねばならない or 消さねばならない.
