そこで (sokode)

そこで means then or so and moves a story or explanation to the next step or logical result. It is used after background or a problem has been stated to introduce a decision, action, or consequence. It stands alone at the start of a sentence, often followed by a comma as in そこで、, and requires no conjugation or particle change. It is neutral in register for both speech and writing, but should not be read as a place word meaning at there.
