であろう (dearou)

Meaning & usage

であろう is the formal equivalent of だろう, expressing conjecture or probability in written and formal speech. It follows the plain form of verbs and i-adjectives, and na-adjectives or nouns take であろう directly. It also appears in the pattern 〜ようが〜であろうが, meaning 'whether... or...'.
