であろう (dearou)

Meaning & usage

であろう expresses a formal conjecture meaning likely or presumably, used in writing, speeches, and predictions about future or unknown situations. It attaches to nouns and na-adjective stems, as in 学生であろう or 重要であろう, and functions as the formal equivalent of だろう. For verbs and i-adjectives, だろう is used instead, so forms like するであろう or 高いであろう should be avoided.
