Meaning & usage
ものの connects two clauses to show contrast, meaning that although the first statement is true, the second adds an unexpected or contrary fact. It follows the plain form of verbs and i-adjectives, and na-adjectives or nouns with である. It carries a written, somewhat formal tone.
