なんて adds an exclamatory or dismissive tone, expressing surprise or downplaying what comes before it, as in 'what a ~!' or 'how ~!'. It attaches to nouns, plain-form verbs, and phrases, often following a quoted idea or a noun with a particle. The tone is casual and often negative or dismissive.
