かろう (karou)

Meaning & usage

かろう expresses conjecture that something is probably true or will probably be so, similar to だろう for i-adjectives in formal writing. It attaches to the stem of an i-adjective by dropping final い and adding かろう, as in 高い to 高かろう, ない to なかろう, and いい to よかろう. It is common with verbs of thinking such as と思う or と予測される, and it cannot be combined with だろう.
