のみならず (nominarazu)

Meaning & usage

のみならず is a formal way to say that something applies beyond the first item, adding a second one with も or においても. It attaches directly to nouns, and can also follow plain-form clauses, as in the adjective example. It appears in written and formal speech rather than casual conversation.
