といった (toitta)

Meaning & usage

といった introduces one or more representative examples before a broader category noun, meaning for example or such as. It follows a noun giving an instance and precedes the category noun, as in 寿司といった日本食. The second noun should name a clear superordinate group rather than a vague word, and the pattern is neutral enough for both speech and writing.
