かえって (kaette)

Meaning & usage

かえって is an adverb meaning that a result goes against what one would expect. It is placed before the word or phrase expressing the unexpected outcome, often in sentences with から or ので giving the reason. The examples all pair it with liking or loving someone despite a flaw.
