だからと言って (dakarato tte)

Meaning & usage

だからと言って pushes back on an assumed conclusion, showing that one fact alone is not enough reason to accept what follows. It attaches to a plain form clause, as in 子供だからと言って or 高いからと言って, using だ after nouns and na-adjectives. The second half is almost always negative, with patterns like とは限らない, わけではない, or てはいけない, so avoid ending it with a plain affirmative statement.
