（っ）たって (tatte)

Meaning & usage

(っ)たって expresses even if or no matter what, conceding a situation while insisting the result will not change. It often pairs with words like いくら, どう or 何 to stress that degree or choice makes no difference. It follows verbs in the ta-form as in 行ったって, i-adjectives as in 高くたって, and nouns and na-adjectives with だって as in 雨だって. It is informal and common in conversation, carrying a dismissive tone compared with ても, so it is avoided in formal writing.
