いかに is a formal adverb meaning how, how much, or to what extent, used to emphasize degree or to ask about extent in writing and speeches. It comes before a verb, adjective, or adverb phrase such as 多い or 重要である, often in the pattern いかに...か with verbs like 痛感する or 指摘する. It is formal and literary, and いかにして is used instead when the question is about method or means, as in いかにして解決するか.
