Meaning & usage
ものではない expresses a strong general denial that something is not true, cannot be done, or should not be done. It is often used with 決して to reject an idea completely or to state a social rule or impossibility. It follows the dictionary form or ない-form of verbs, including potentials like できる, as in 許されるものではない or 座るものではない, and follows i-adjectives directly, na-adjectives with な, and nouns with という. The tone is formal and emphatic.
