をはじめ（として） (wohajime toshite)

Meaning & usage

をはじめ（として）presents one representative item and indicates that other similar things are included as well, meaning something like "starting with" or "including." It attaches directly to a noun, and the variant をはじめとする takes a following noun, as in 『源氏物語』をはじめとする物語.
