Meaning & usage

～であれ～であれ expresses that the result or statement holds regardless of which of two nouns is true. It is used with contrasting nouns such as 成功であれ失敗であれ to show that the difference does not matter. It attaches to nouns as Noun + であれ, repeated for X and Y, where であれ is the imperative form of である. It is formal and common in writing and speeches, and both parts must keep であれ.
