Meaning & usage
というか is used to hedge, correct, or rephrase what was said, with a nuance like or rather or or maybe. It follows a plain form clause, and after a noun or na-adjective the だ is often omitted, as in 暑いというか or 友達というか. It can also begin a following sentence to revise the previous statement. It is conversational and common in speech, so it is avoided in formal writing.
