Meaning & usage
たるや attaches to a noun to single it out with a sense of awe, meaning as for that thing and how extreme it is. It is often used with nouns expressing degree, such as 美しさ or 暑さ, in the pattern noun + たるや. The following clause then describes the astonishing effect or scale. It is formal and literary, suited to written narration rather than casual speech.
