Meaning & usage
折(に) is a formal way to say "on the occasion of" or "when", used in polite written or spoken Japanese such as letters and greetings. It follows a noun, usually with の between the noun and 折, as in お暇の折には. The に may be dropped, as in 残暑厳しい折.
