Meaning & usage

折 marks a formal occasion and means on the occasion of or at the time of an event. It follows the dictionary form of a verb as in 帰省する折に, or a noun with の as in お越しの折に, with optional に, には, or は. It is used in polite writing, greetings, and business invitations to show respect to the listener.
