Meaning & usage
あくまでも emphasizes holding to an intention, claim, or stance to the very end despite opposition or pressure to change. It is an adverb placed before verbs expressing volition, desire, or persistence such as しようとする, したいと思う, 守る, or 貫く, and before nominal predicates expressing a maintained position like 中立だ. It does not combine with obligation forms like すべきだ or なければならない, nor does it modify plain state adjectives to mean very, and it sounds firm and resolute, common in formal speech and writing.
