Meaning & usage
はあれ combines the particle は with the demonstrative あれ, and in the examples it appears inside comparative statements, where あれ points to "that one" and は marks it as the topic or contrast item. It carries a concessive, "although; even though" nuance at the N1 level, so it sets up a contrast between what is stated and what might be expected.
