わわ (wawa)

Meaning & usage

わわ repeats the same sentence-final particle わ after two or more phrases to list things happening one after another, often with a tone of surprise or exasperation, as in お腹が痛いわ、頭は痛いわ. It attaches to plain phrases such as verbs and i-adjectives, and the examples show it mainly in casual, often feminine speech.

1. お腹なかが痛いたいわ、頭あたまは痛いたいわ、熱ねつがあるわーで、もう死しにそう。

   My stomach hurts, my throat hurts, and I have a fever. I feel like I'm dying.

2. いいこと聞いたわ。それって勉強になったわ。

5. 雨には降られるわ、デートに遅刻するわ、財布を落とすわ、今日は踏んだり蹴ったりだよ。

   I get caught in the rain, I'm late for my date, and I lose my pocketbook. It's just one thing after another today.

6. 「おい。走ると危ないぞ」「え？・・・わっ、わ、うわわ～～～っ」「あーあー、言わんこっちゃない」

   "Hey! It's dangerous to run here." "Eh? ... A-a-Aaah!!" "Oh dear, what did I tell you?"
