がなら (ganara)

Meaning & usage

がなら appears inside なければならない, the pattern expressing obligation, where なけれ/なきゃ plus ば leads to ならない. It attaches to the negative stem of a verb (e.g. 別れなければ, しなければ) to say that doing the action is necessary or unavoidable. The examples show it in both neutral statements and complaints, so it works in casual speech too.
