この上ない (kono nai)

Meaning & usage

この上ない expresses that something is at the highest possible degree, with nothing above it. It follows a noun directly, as in この上ない努力, or follows a verb in the dictionary form plus こと, as in わかりづらいことこの上ない, to stress that the quality cannot be exceeded.
